Last Act

Ronald Reagan is one of my favorite presidents.  I grew up with him and watch him give powerful speech, many time from the oval office. ( not to many presidents do that anymore).  I have read Reagan's autobiography and loved it.  I was hoping a book would come along that would showcase is last few years of his life.
One such book finally came and I had high hopes for it, only to be disappointed.  Craig Shirley new book Last Act is one that I hoped would be better than it was.  Now don't get me wrong Mr Shirley is one of the few great biographer of Ronald Reagan. But I think he came up short on this book.
I felt that it was more about what was going on in the world around the time of Reagan's death.  Talking about George W Bush and how the country looked down about him and how he was coming off the victory with Kerry.  I have to admit I only got about 100 pages in before I moved on to something else.  I just felt there was a lot of fluff that was in the pages and not enough focus on the ex president.  Now I am sure if I continued to read that I would have maybe found that to be true but for me I just could not continue. I was very disappointed.

I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review of this book from the Thomas Nelson Company. My review is mine and mine alone.

The Legend of the Christmas Cookies

What a great book to get you in the mood for Christmas.  The Legend of the Christmas Cookies is just that book.

Christmas is a time of give and a time to think of others before yourself.  That is what this books talks about.  Jack comes home one day to find his home smelling of fresh baked cookies.  Something that was not an often smell in his home.  Jack's father was away for work and send what little money he had home.  His mom put what little money that had into a cookie jar, which never held many cookies.

Jack comes to find out that the cookies where not his but for a needy church function.  Jacks couldn't believe is mom would make cookies for a people at a needy church when he himself felt needy.  But the lesson that Jack is about to learn is one that we need to be reminded of each year.

I love this book and one that will be add to a library full of Christmas stories. Already plan on buying this book as Christmas gifts.

The Complete 101 Collection

I have always been a fan of John Maxwell books and the 101 series has always been a favorite of mine.  I am glad now that I have them all in one book.  I have recommended Maxwell's work to many of my friends and co-works.  In fact my current employer recommended some of Maxwell's work.

If you already know about that 101 series, you know what a great resource this work is, I love to review it over and over again.  It's a good that you don't need to read cover to cover, it's one that you can jump ahead to a topic that you need a refresher course in.  I would highly recommended John's works and the 101 Collection is a must have for you library collection.

I was given this book free of charge for and honest review by Thomas Nelson.

Wrestling for my life

I had a chance to review this book by The Booklook program of the Thomas Nelson publishing company.  I am glad that I was giving that chance.

Wrestling For My Life is the latest book by former WWE star Shawn Michael's.  He talks about his conversion to Christ and how he is able to live a life dedicated to Him and still do the things he loves.

I used to watch Shawn, along withTriple H and Steve " Stone Cold" Austin all the time.  You look at these guys and you think they have it all, they get to do what they love, get the girls, just have the best life. Maybe they do, but Shawn talks about is struggle with drugs and how it almost ruined his life, his marriage and his job.

But it wasn't until he found God and Jesus Christ that he changed his life.  Shawn talks about in the book how he came to know Jesus and how Jesus Christ sweet love helps us all. I really loved reading this book and I hope that you will too.

I highly recommend this book.

Samson By Shawn Hoffman

I was giving the chance to read the following book Samson By Shawn Hoffman.  The book was given to me by the Booklook review program.  I was given this book free in exchange for an honest review.

There is nothing more I love to read then books about WWII.  I have read many books about the South Pacific, but not as many about the Germany.  I read Bonhoeffer and loved it.  I picked up this one because it was about Germany and the Jewish people and what they went through.  The fact to it was about boxing sparked my interested.  However,  I had one heck of time reading this book.

The writing was very well done, Mr. Hoffman did is work on this book.  What I am saying is that it was very disturbing at parts.  That coming from me says a lot.  I normally can push this stuff aside and let it go, but there was on part of the book when they where take to the Nazi camps that just had me dwelling on it.  I think too why I dwelt on it so much was because it was true.  I finding more and more that the Germans.. mainly Hitler.  Was sick!!!

I have to say that I did not finish the whole book, I couldn't.  But because of the history of the book and how well written it is, I would recommend it to those that are ok with reading this kind of stuff.  Just know that I warned you.

Thanks again to the booklook program for me free book.
